Fox acrobatics: Dolly nursing 3 kits while perched on a tall stump |#shorts
Last year, our resident mama fox, Dolly, had a single kit (or pup, if you prefer), Frances. This year (2024) she had 3.
Dolly often nursed Frances while perched on top of her favorite tall stump, and apparently she saw no reason to do things differently this year, even though the stump was no bigger and her little ones were. She sat there, grinning, while her kits flailed around desperately, trying to nurse AND stay on the stump. As you'll see, not everyone managed to hang in there. These stumps can be slippery little suckers, right?

We have lots of cameras in our backyard and we stream a few that we think might be most interesting. Often, during the day, there's not a lot going on. After dark, we focus on a water bowl on a busy critter trail and we usually show an overhead view as well as the normal ground-level view. If any of the other trails are busy at night, we'll put them live too. A map of our backyard At long last,...

Dan and I went away on vacation for a week in late June this year and our friend Chris moved in to look after the critters for us while we were gone. Chris is a good guy, obviously. The critters like him and so do we. One morning when Chris went to put fresh water in the bowl by the big live oak, Pale Fox followed him all the way down the trail, and then he turned around and followed him all th...

In the summer of 2023 a gray fox family - mama, papa, and a single kit - moved into one of our dens. The mother fox, Dolly, had been visiting the backyard and for quite some time, and we could tell that she was nursing. We'd been hoping that she would bring her family closer and so we were delighted to see her carry a kit in past the water bowl one day in late May. This video is the first episo...

Dolly supervised a chaotic and very entertaining play session for her kits on the morning of June 12th. Here, all three of them are trying to sit on the top of the tall stump - not easy for a squirming, scuffling bunch of little foxes.

Texas spiny lizards are quite common around here - though, as with many other species, we don’t see as many as we used to and, actually, we hear them more often than we see them. In the summer, when we’re outside, they will rustle away from us in the undergrowth or skitter up the nearest tree, their immensely long claws making little ticking sounds on the bark. Many people, locally, call them “...

This is how hot it was in July 2022. Really, really hot. Our poor magic tree den mama raccoon was crashed out, and a baby was crashed out and draped over her. I know we shouldn't laugh - it must have been an oven in the den - but it's a funny little clip.

This great little clip shows a mama raccoon in the Hobbit box nailing a mosquito that was plainly getting on her nerves. There are two things that make this video remarkable: First, it was pitch dark in the box. We can see, because the camera is using infrared night vision, but the mama raccoon can't. And yet she zeroed in on the mosquito with absolute precision. She could hear it, and she coul...

Occasionally our cameras catch things that we wouldn't believe if we hadn't seen them ourselves. This is one of those things. A fox snoozing in the sunshine outside a den was being disturbed by a tiny titmouse, who seemed intent on doing everything she could to be irritating. She pecked at the fox, jumped on his back, and launched little kicks at his side, and every time the fox stirred and tri...

Opossums are truly unique creatures. They are America's only marsupial, they seem to be immune to the venom of rattlesnakes and copperheads, and they have some fascinating reproductive traits (as you'll see in this video). Opossums' ability to feign death when threatened by a predator has given us the phrase "playing possum". (It's worth noting that when "playing possum", an opossum not only lo...

When they sting me people are amazed because the only thing I get is a little red mark and within 5 minutes I'm back at work. I've been dealing with them in Florida for the last 38 years of my life and have been stung more times than I can count. Luckily unlike most people I don't swell up or even show signs that I was stung. I no longer show a allergic reaction to their venom just like ant bites. I think it was because when I was about 2 years old I was covered from head to toe with ants and they didn't think I would survive. I'm sure I have so much formic acid in my body now it's not even funny. Then again, if I cut myself half the time I don't even know it until I see the blood. I have a super high pain tolerance and I have the Neanderthal mutation that boosts my immune system. One of the few genetic traits from the offshoots of humanity that I'm happy about😂

I made friends with a bunny last year during the drought and her mate has finally started trusting me more this year. Well, he challenged me a few times...stomped the ground and made a weird noise. I let the female eat from my garden during the drought last year so guess where she put her nest in June? She knew I wouldn`t be mean to baby bunnies so I lost half my peas and melon vines to the little gang of nibblers. I was watering and noticed what looked like huge rats scurrying everywhere, looked closer, and there were 5 inch long bunnies all over the place. But when I mowed around the edge of the garden mama bunny evacuated the babies to a safer blackberry patch. Ha!

@@TexasBackyardWildlife There was a bad disease about 7 years ago that decimated the rabbit population so I wanted the survivors to feel safe here to repopulate the area. These two and their young are the only ones I`ve seen. The female trusts me and comes up to me and sometimes comes when called. I leave a bowl of water out for her and plant Red Ripper peas everywhere for them to eat. She doesn`t eat much from my garden this year but her babies did.

If you knew what Babylon was like you'd understand why they all have built in memories like us. Your all afraid of dark under water for a reason. Butter flies can fly back to where their parents came from without ever being brought. Those were chimney sweeping babies those were full grown people just had to grow size because a full adult won't fit in the womb. Animals still hold the trait or we'd need school for animals too if everything had to learn like we do. It was different in the past our Creator is growing with us and changes what needs changing

Well. I do know a bit about Babylon, as it happens. I don't think it ever had anything to do with "built in memories". And if the world actually has a creator, it seems clear that he or she has now lost interest in us.

@@TexasBackyardWildlife from what you said you clearly dont know enough and to think anything could go on without Creators interest you clearly dont have a true concept of what infinite truly means. no offence but to think an infinite being would lose interest in a Creation you follow a hollywood version of what Creator is. a true Creators infinite is so precise that even a simple change of a mood can effect an entire day or week and it heal by the end of it you just picture a lazy Creator but infinite is infinite ideas as well just like coming into one of us as an idea or as a person your limiting Creator to your imagination but try Creator is literal 9 billion imaginations put together and infinite more if we choose to bring more people here through our gift of making life. dont give up on Creator. when the trees grow all the exact same is when society will be done youll see
